Irish Citizen of the Year History

The first of the St. Patrick’s Day activities was the Irish “Member” of the Year celebration. The historic Indianapolis Athletic Club would honor one of its members with the title “Irish Member of the Year” at a luncheon celebration. This is before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade was added as part of the activities in 1981. When the Athletic Club building closed in the fall of 2004, the Indy Sports Foundation continued the tradition by changing it to the Irish “Citizen” of the Year and honoring “F” Quinn in 2005.
