Home : Foundation History : History The Indy Sports Foundation Organized in 1984, the Indy Sports Foundation was created to promote national and international amateur sports, and to give assistance and support to persons and organizations engaged in such activities. Originally housed and operated from Indianapolis Athletic Club, the Foundation is a donor-supported charitable entity that has underwritten such worthwhile causes as summer camps for kids with disabilities, Special Olympic Camps, boys and girls from disadvantaged homes, Big Brother, and other amateur athletic events like the Indiana High School Girls Volleyball State Finals Banquet. The main events which are hosted and administered by the Indy Sports Foundation are the Annual Shamrock Run/Walk, the Annual Indianapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Celebration, the Salute to the IRL Drivers Luncheon, and the Annual Oaken Bucket Luncheon. Some of these events have been part of our community for the past 25 years or more. Over the years the Indy Sports Foundation, now housed within the Columbia Club, has continued to evolve, but it continues to look for ways to support the future of our youth in sports. For the city of Indianapolis, the thrill and excitement of elite athletes competing in world-class competitive events is part and parcel of the city’s reputation for excellence. The Indy Sports Foundation shares our city’s enthusiasm for such events, but - perhaps more vital to the future of Indianapolis – the Indy Sports Foundation recognizes and enhances the role of athletics in the lives of ordinary young people though its financial support, as well as the direct involvement of its members.
